Keep warm and healthy this winter with these 3 drinks

Whip up warm drinks for bitterly cold days.

Winter is here. Besides keeping cosy, snuggling under your favourite blanky in front of a fire, there are other ways to beat the winter chill. Like, warm beverages, you know a bowl of moms delicious chicken soup can surely do the trick. But for most of us, It's easier to turn to hot chocolate to warm up on those cold days, but too much of it can be bad for your health and your family. Rather whip up one of these warm winter drinks, packed with antioxidants and immune-boosting ingredients, for the whole family to enjoy.

Lemon and Ginger Tea

Number one on our list has to be this classic oldie, so if you’re looking to beat the winter chills and stay healthy then this lemon and ginger tea will do wonders for you. Add that to your winter drinks list.🙋‍♂️ (A recipe by Gemma and Emma)

Ingredients

  • 3 lemons
  • 3 limes
  • 2l boiling water
  • 3 big pieces of cinnamon bark or 5 cinnamon sticks
  • A handful of ginger root - peeled
  • ½ jar of honey
  • Cayenne pepper to sprinkle
  • 2Twosprigs of thyme
  • 2Twosprigs of rosemary
  • 2Twosprigs of mint

How to prepare

  • Squeeze out the juice from the lemons and limes
  • Now, put both the liquid and the fruit into a large saucepan with all the other ingredients and boil for about 5 minutes
  • Let it cool, and squeeze out lemons and limes again into the saucepan before discarding
  • Strain and decant
  • Stir before serving
  • In an upright jar, keep in the fridge for up to 5 days

Latte-like Turmeric Golden Milk

A creamy latte-like drink with loads of healing properties might just be the perfect winter warmer. It’s packed with loads of immune-boosting features. Another good one to add to your winter drinks list.😁 (A recipe by Dr Joy Nutrition)

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 ½ tsp ground turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • A tbsp of coconut oil (or ghee)
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • Maple syrup to taste (optional)

How to prepare

  • Mix all your ingredients in a small saucepan and cook until it starts simmering.
  • Remove from the stove, pour into a cup and enjoy

The Pumpkin Latte

Pumpkins, not only are they good for your eyesight but also helps with weight loss, can lower blood pressure, reduce your risk for cancer, and most of all it supports the immune system. This one definitely tops our winter drinks list and that is why we saved it for last. Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice
  • 2 tsp black coffee
  • Whipped cream to top it off

How to prepare

  • Simmer the milk
  • Add the puree and the spices
  • Pour in the cups
  • Lastly, add coffee and the whipped cream

Before you can face the cold outside, make sure you bundle up, meaning to dress warmly. A quick warm drink filled with much-needed nutrients and antioxidants can also help protect us against various infections and from getting the flu.
